Roxette: It must have been love

Roxette: It must have been love

The great Marie Fredriksson is dead, aged 61, after a 17 year long battle with cancer.

One half of the ‘other’ Swedish super group, Roxette, Fredriksson was, in my opinion, one of the great voices of the 20th century. The string of hits that she performed along with Per Gessle is extraordinary – and while you may not think you know many of their songs – you most definitely do. ‘It Must have been Love’ (below), ‘The Look’, ‘Crash Boom Bang’, ‘Fading like a flower’, ‘The Big Love’, ‘Queen of Rain’, ‘Listen to your heart’, ‘Joyride’, and ‘Dressed for Success’ are just the tip of an extensive back catalogue that helped to shape a generation.

I only ever saw Marie perform live, once, at Spark Arena a couple of years ago – but her music was such an influence on me that I actually wrote a Musical, based on it, back in the early 2000s and have been working with Roxettes Stockholm-based Manager, on and off, for years in the hopes of eventually getting it staged. Rest in peace Marie – and thank you for the music…..
