Is Israel about to be ‘unburdened by what has been’?
The good guys just got a huge boost
During her failed Presidential election campaign, Kamala Harris repeatedly used the catchphrase ‘What can be, unburdened by what has been’. It was a silly slogan because it wasn’t backed up by any new policy – but in an ironic twist, her demise, along with that of Biden, appears to have made that phrase a reality for Israel and the Jewish people.
Consider what lies just ahead for Israel, now that the significant constraints imposed by the Biden administration are off:
▶️The US has just conditionally approved an $8 billion arms deal, to Israel – on top of a $20 billion sale of fighter jets back in August. The deal has conditions and requires the approval of Congress – but this will almost certainly be forthcoming from the new Republican majority house – along with a reversal of the significant constraints placed on such deals by Biden..
▶️Speaking of those constraints – they’re about to end. Trump has repeatedly said that ‘all hell will break loose’ on Hamas if the hostages aren’t released by the 20th of Jan – an allusion to his oft-repeated promise that he will remove any constraints which hamper Israel in its efforts to eliminate Hamas. The political games are over and Israel will now be able to do what needs to be done to end the grip of Hamas on the Gaza Palestinians.
▶️That work will be further enhanced by the Israeli ban on the terrorist organisation UNRWA which also comes into effect later this month. Although a UN agency, multiple investigations show that UNRWA is irretrievably entwined with Hamas and facilitates its activity – including complicity in the October 7 massacre. The ban outlaws UNRWAs ability to operate anywhere in Israel, Gaza or the West Bank and, along with the withdrawal of its funding from an increasing number of nations, means that UNRWAs terrorist activity is over.
▶️Another big development is Trumps announcement of huge sanctions against the International Criminal Court. These follow the ICCs decision to issue an ‘arrest warrant’ against Israeli PM Netanyahu and will target both individual ICC personnel, including judges and prosecutors, and the institution as a whole. Their effect will be to classify the ICC as an organisation threatening US interests, and will employ procedures similar to those used by the State Department to identify terrorist organisations. This designation will trigger severe restrictions on anyone involved with the ICCs operations and will act as a warning to any other international body seeking to politicise the legitimacy of Israel’s actions.
Add to this other upcoming initiatives designed to sanction and withdraw funding from Colleges which allow violent protest and fail to protect Jews; along with the end of social media censorship of views which do not comply with the leftwing narrative on Israel, and there is good reason to be very optimistic.
The war against terror and extremism is by no means over – but there’s certainly a sense that the good guys just got a huge boost….
